About

A Toronto trade house, built across two decades.

GMC Trading Group is the parent of two complementary divisions — GMC Commodities, our principal trading desk for industrial bulk commodities, and GMC Media, the international trade-marketing business that started everything in 2002. Both serve the same network of counterparties across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Our two divisions

Two businesses, one network.

We didn't pivot. We extended. The relationships our media division built across twenty years of international trade work are the same relationships that make our commodity trading desk credible to a procurement officer in Shanghai or a producer manager in Calgary.

Timeline

From international media house to Canadian trading desk.

  1. 2002

    GMC Media founded in Toronto

Global Media Consultants is established as an international media buying and trade marketing house, helping Canadian businesses reach customers across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

  2. 2002–2024

    Two decades of cross-border relationships

Through campaigns for tourism boards, manufacturing exporters, government immigration programs, and aviation clients, GMC builds a counterparty network across China, the Gulf, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and East Africa — the same markets that now drive demand for stable industrial bulk supply.

  3. 2025

    The supply lane shifts

Middle East conflict and Red Sea shipping risk fracture traditional Saudi-Asia and UAE-Asia trade lanes for sulphur, fertilizer feedstocks, and bulk minerals. Asian buyers begin actively seeking stable Pacific-route alternatives from North America.

  4. 2026

    GMC Commodities trading desk launched

GMC Trading Group is established as the holding entity, with a new Commodities Division operating as a Canadian principal trader on a back-to-back letter of credit structure. First active book: granulated sulphur from certified Canadian producers to Asian chemical counterparties.

Inside the firm

How the trading desk is organized.

GMC Trading Group is structured around four functional desks that move every trade from initial counterparty contact through to bank-settled cargo. The desks share a Toronto base and coordinate end-to-end on every transaction.

Counterparty origination

Buyer-side & producer-side relationships

Two decades of cross-border relationship work across Asian, MENA, and African industrial markets — originally built through GMC Media's international trade marketing practice — now form the counterparty base our trading book draws on. New mandates are sourced through this network.

Sourcing & spec

North American producer engagement

Direct producer engagement with Canadian commodity origins — Alberta sulphur and oil sands byproducts, Saskatchewan potash, Quebec/Labrador iron ore concentrates, BC met coal. Spec verification, quality audit clauses, and producer contract execution sit on this desk.

Documentary & settlement

Back-to-back L/C structuring

Coordinates the documentary and banking workflow that makes a back-to-back letter of credit trade actually settle — sale and purchase contracts, L/C terms drafting, bank-to-bank settlement coordination with our Canadian commercial banking partners.

Logistics & verification

Origin to destination

Coordinates load-port logistics, vessel chartering, independent third-party inspection, and the documentation chain that flows shipping documents through the banking channels to trigger simultaneous settlement on both letters of credit.
